I found this "American accent" quiz via Manhattan Chowder. It did not fail to communicate accurate results.What I learned: American broadcasters are trying to mimic my low-brow Midland accent.

I have a midland accent as well. The only place I've been to in in that section is Harpers Ferry, WV. And that was only for a couple hours. I was born and raised in Los Angeles. How odd.
